Verbum: The Bible
A multilingual Catholic Bible for iPhone with all 73 books available offline, natural voice playback, saved reading progress, and source-backed Catholic explanations.

Verbum is a quiet, focused Catholic Bible reader built for daily use. The complete Bible stays on the phone, reading and listening pick up exactly where the user stopped, and difficult passages can be explored through explanations grounded in checkable Catholic sources.
The challenge
What needed to change
Bible apps often surround the text with accounts, ads, feeds, and constant connectivity. Verbum needed to keep Scripture at the center while supporting multiple languages, long reading sessions, listening, accessibility, and trustworthy context without making the interface feel heavy.
The solution
What I designed and built
- The complete 73-book Original Douay–Rheims Bible stored on-device for fully offline reading.
- English, Spanish, and Polish editions with a fast book-and-chapter picker and exact progress restoration.
- Selectable voice playback, reading-speed controls, Dynamic Type, dark mode, and accessibility support.
- Catholic AI explanations designed to point readers toward sources they can check for themselves.
- A SwiftUI reading experience that keeps navigation available while letting the text remain visually dominant.
The outcome
Where it landed
The core reading, listening, navigation, and explanation experience is working in a native iPhone build. Verbum remains in active development as the content and release experience are refined.
